Engineering and Metallurgery
Sheet metals are used extensively across various industries. These products are used to cover storage space, build temporary housing and make new products. The sheets are available in different thicknesses. Thin metals are easy to cut and mould but thicker sheets require heavy-duty machines for cutting and shaping. Even processing of thin sheets in large number requires industrial grade machines. The sheet metal machinery helps cut and mould sheets in desired shape. A wide range of machinery is used for this purpose.
Machinery for Cutting
This is the first process in giving shape to a piece of metal sheet. The sheets are generally available in a roll form. In most cases, the sheet must be first cut in the required size and shape before it can be used. There are simple handheld power tools that can be used to cut metals. It includes small handheld shearing machines that are easy to carry and can be used on the site. For factory use, heavy-duty shearing machine is used. Other types of cutting machines are also available. These machines are used when the sheet must be cut in complex geometric shape.
These machines are used to shape the metal sheet. This type of machinery uses heavy pressure for shaping. The flat sheet is placed between two heavy metal parts. These metal parts are designed to give a specific shape to the sheet. The sheet is pressed between two heavy metal parts. It helps mould the sheet in the required shape. The weight, strength and stress bearing capacity of a sheet metal can be increased manifold by giving it special shapes.
Hydraulic Bending Machine
As the name suggests, this machine is used to bend the sheet of metal. The machine for this purpose should be selected according to the thickness of sheet that will be used in the process. The buyer also needs to take into account how close the bending will be formed. In precision requirements, it is important to pay attention to the inner and outer bending angles if it is a thick metal sheet.
There are many other types of machinery used in the processing of sheet metals. These machines include press brake, guillotine, roll formers, punching machines, shears, folders, corner cutter and welding machine, among many others. Many such machines are available in both manual and automatic varieties. Even in the automatic system, there can be various categories. For example, there are cutting machines that use sharp metal, plasma or waterjet technology. There are CNC machines where the required design is fed into the computer and the automatic machine completes rest of the process.
